Taj Mahal

White marble and jasper
carnelian and garnate
coral and agate
turqouise and lapis
In the dawn, she turns from white to rose
petal skin where the blood flows
and the whites of her eyes meet the sun
tightened thighs and curling tongues
it takes this moment to awaken, there's just too much beauty to take in
so you lather her with ivory, she's the palace you pray in nightly
when you met her, you were the king of sand
a solid heart with idle hands
still you loved with your blood, salt, and stone
dug kisses into crescent bones
if this love was meant for heaven, build me a temple I can pray in
it will never be complete until the earth falls at her feet
in dusty walls you build your tomb
you flood the halls into your room
with stacks of books and paper plates
push out the light, push out the day
every moment that astounds you, you put in jars around you
little bottles filled with sand and precious stones in coffee cans

Little Bird
02:42
|
|||
Little bird in the yard listening to feminist poets
crying all about their vaginas
everybody's got a flower to love
The trees are bare and bending into a lotus
they're all fending for the air that's inside us
everybody wants someone to hug
In the backyard, staring at the sun
the pen is leaking in the sky
and the words I said, well, I forget
I just sit and watch them all go by
when you called me Babe, I heard the words standing behind you
you said it like nobody had touched you
I called you my Italian Thug
Then I got on a train and traveled under the ocean
bringing you flowers and devotion
everybody wants a tree they can bug
In the backyard, staring at the sun
the pen is leaking in the sky
and the words I said, well, I forget
I just sit and watch them all go by

Adrenaline

|

she comes in, adrenaline
her beauty is frightening
so in the air we blow a kiss
you love her like a rock show
love her like a circus

The Gardener
03:03
|

I liked what you saw when you said I'll not forget you
I was a glass of water in the bar where I first met you
Up on a pedestal, you said
"you're the girl I've been dreaming of
and you are innocent in everything concerning love"
Well, maybe I am? Maybe I don't know?
I had to point it out that my fingernails were dirty
I said-I'm a gardener
you said - that's cute and girly
But I like to dig up weeds, especially when they're under the surface
I wasn't drunk that night but you know that wasn't on purpose
In my sober state, I told you about the things I'd done
I shot my old man with a .38 gun
I buried him in the garden, dug that hole right down to hell
you're not a killer - you said - just a girl who can't aim well
Well, maybe I am? Maybe I don't know?
You said - I want to take you dancing - would you come with me?
You saw innocence when I said - I can only lead
You said - I'll follow you until you are good and brave
I said - if you follow me boy, you'll be following me right to your grave
I liked what you saw when you said I'll not forget you
I was a glass of water in the bar where I first met you
up on a pedestal, you said - you're the girl I've been dreaming of
(up on the bar stool, I warned you what I was capable of)
You said - you're innocent in everything concerning love
So I guess I'm innocent as I'm washing off your blood?
Well, maybe I am? Maybe I don't know?

Take It With You
04:34
|
|||
Before we go, before we part
I just want you to know how much I love you
I'm sorry things are the way they are
I'm sorry I push when I should hold you
I know some things I'll have to let go
Let's be slow, let's be still
let's be quiet as the winter
we'll freeze our tongues and let the chill
preserve what's left of the summer
I know some things I'll have to let go
All I wanted to do was give you my love
let the waves come and take you with them
all I wanted to do was give you my love
give you my love, you can take it with you
